Presentation
Preparation
Before class, teacher needs to collect as many old (adult size) clothes as possibl: shirt, pants/trousers, socks, jacket, shoes, hat. Other clothes will be useful as well, such as skirt, dress, coat, jeans, shorts, blouse, sweater, neck tie, t-shirt, vest. If the teacher can’t get enough, he/she can ask parents to bring in some old clothes for the lessons. The clothes need to be adult size as the students are going to put them over their own clothes.
No doubt the large pile of clothes in the classroom will have attracted a great amount of attention, so teacher will have little difficulty in introducing the topic.
Teacher settles the class down and get everyone to sit down. Teacher asks for a volunteer and have him/her stand at the front of the class with his/her. Teacher tells the class the volunteer is going to get dressed up – with as many different types of clothes as possible! Teacher pulls out the first clothing item (e.g. a t-shirt). Teacher elicits and chorus the word for the item three times. Then helps the volunteer to put it on. Teacher only puts on each item of clothing when he/she is satisfied that everyone has chorused the word correctly. Then the teacher moves onto the next clothing item. As teacher selects each item, he/she has to think about the order – the volunteer has to be putting the jacket, shoes and hat on last. Teacher keeps adding clothes until the volunteer is really well dressed up.
