Introducing more food

Big group

If possible, teacher brings vegetables into class. Other options are: plastic vegetables, vegetable flashcards or vegetable photos cut out of free supermarket magazines. Also, teacher brings a basket for the vegetables.

Before the students enter the classroom, teacher hides the vegetables all around the class – in draws, behind books, under things, etc. Once the teacher is ready, tells the students to sit down and says "Let’s look for some vegetables!"Then he/she stands up and demonstrates that is searching for something. Then teacher finds one of the vegetables and shows his/her thrill in doing so. Takes it over to the basket and drops it in saying "Put it in the basket". Then gets everyone to hunt around the room until all of the vegetables have been found and placed in the basket.

Then, teacher holds up the first vegetable and chorus the word three times (e.g. “carrot, carrot, carrot”). Then teacher passes the vegetable around the class and each student repeats the name as they pass it. Teacher does this for all of the vegetables.
